Networks and Their Impact
Networks connect people globally, enabling instant communication, collaboration, and access to cloud storage and services anytime, anywhere.
Network Components
- Hosts (End Devices): Send and receive data.
- Intermediary Devices: Route and manage traffic.
- Media: The physical or wireless means through which data travels.
Network Topologies
- Physical Topology: Shows device locations and cabling.
- Logical Topology: Shows data flow, ports, and addressing.
Types of Networks
- LANs: Cover small areas (e.g., homes, offices).
- WANs: Cover wide areas (e.g., the internet).
- Intranet/Extranet: Private networks for internal use or shared access.
Internet Connections
- SOHO Connections: Cable, DSL, satellite, etc.
- Business Connections: Leased lines, Metro Ethernet, etc.
